30 August 2024
The Warwick Killarney Uniting Church has announced it will continue the great work of Protea Place in Warwick, which supported vulnerable women in the region through a pilot program over the past 12 months.
The Centre has been renamed WillowTree37 following the withdrawal of funding by Protea Place and will continuing its legacy of care and support for the community for the next six months.
Uniting Church Communications leader, Sue Campbell has acknowledged the remarkable work and dedication of the staff of Protea Place, which has had a significant positive impact on the local community.
“The hard work of all involved in building the space and volunteers who made it flourish was not about to go to waste,” Sue said.
“Our army of dedicated helpers have worked tirelessly to ensure the continuation of this vital service.
“We look forward to working closely with the local community to explore new opportunities to continue to provide this service to those who need support and assistance,” Sue said.
The Warwick Killarney Uniting Church was informed of the decision to close Protea Place at the end of July in late June 2024.
“While saddened by the news, we deeply appreciate the tireless efforts, support, and generosity of the local community, business and corporate sponsors, the Uniting Church, and the Warwick congregation that made this venture possible,” Sue said.
Funds raised through the community for Protea Place Warwick have been transferred to the Warwick Killarney Uniting Church, which will manage the service in caretaker mode until the new service finds its feet.
