From Impact to Support

The Social Impact Report is helping congregations better understand and communicate the difference they make in their communities. As churches learn to tell these stories more confidently, new opportunities will emerge for partnership, support, and shared mission.

Every day, Uniting Church congregations across Queensland create places of belonging, support people experiencing hardship, strengthen community connections and respond to local needs. The recently launched Social Impact Report shines a light on this contribution. It provides something many congregations have never had before: evidence that helps tell the story of their impact.

This matters because people are more likely to support ministries when they can clearly see the difference they make.

When conversations about sustainability begin, they often focus on what a congregation needs. Yet some of the strongest opportunities for support begin somewhere else. They begin with impact.

What role does your congregation play in your community? How are people finding connection, support, hope or belonging through your ministry? What would be missing if your church was no longer there?

Behind every statistic in the Social Impact Study is a story of lives touched, relationships built and communities strengthened. People rarely support a budget. They support a purpose or a project they believe in. Congregations already have a powerful advantage: trusted relationships. Through worship, pastoral care, community activities and everyday interactions, congregations create connections that often span generations.

Many acts of generosity begin with a conversation. Someone sees a ministry firsthand, hears a story that resonates and decides they want to be part of it. For many congregations, the challenge is not creating impact. The challenge is recognising it, articulating it and sharing it.

The Social Impact Report offers a new way forward. It helps congregations demonstrate the difference they are making and provides a foundation for conversations about partnership, support, and shared mission.

As your congregation reflects on its role in the community, consider three simple questions:

  • What impact are we creating?
  • How are we sharing that story?
  • Who might want to be part of what God is already doing here?

The Social Impact Study has given us a new way of seeing something that has always been there:

  • Congregations are more than places of worship. They are places of connection, care, belonging, and community.
  • ESG may be a new term for many of us, but the work it seeks to describe is not.

Across Queensland, congregations have been creating social value for generations, the opportunity now is to tell that story with greater confidence.
