Caring for Creation Together – take part in Clean Up Australia Day 2026

This year on Sunday 1 March, communities across the country will come together for Clean Up Australia Day – a practical and powerful way to care for the land, waterways and neighbourhoods we share.
It offers us a meaningful opportunity to live out our call to steward God’s creation, live our values and strengthen connections with local communities.

Here are three ways to get involved:

1. Organise a Clean Up Event

One of the simplest ways to get involved is to register your congregation as a Clean Up Australia Day site and host a clean-up in your local area.
This might include:
• Cleaning up the street or park near your church
• Caring for a nearby creek, riverbank or beach
• Tidying school grounds, walking tracks or community green spaces.

Inviting congregation members, neighbours and local groups to join you not only makes a visible difference – it’s also a wonderful act of hospitality and community connection.

Churches may choose to:
• Combine worship and action with a short outdoor prayer before the clean up
• Follow the event with morning tea or a shared lunch
• Invite children and young people to take on age appropriate roles or create posters, prayers or art made from recycled materials.

Everyone is supported with insurance and free clean up kits through Clean Up Australia.

2. Make Creation Care Part of Worship

Clean Up Australia Day can also be woven into the spiritual life of the congregation.
Ideas include:
• A creation focused sermon or reflection
• Prayers for the land, oceans, wildlife and future generations
• A blessing for volunteers taking part in a clean up
• Incorporating hymns and songs that celebrate creation.

3. Head along to a local Community Clean Up

Clean Up Australia Day is a wonderful opportunity to show up for your community.
Churches can:
• Join an existing clean up organised by local council, schools, surf lifesaving clubs or environmental groups
• Offer church grounds as a meeting point or refreshment hub
• Promote local events through church newsletters and noticeboards

Join an event near you.

Your faith in action can make a difference!
