Introducing Jen Mundt, Disaster Recovery Officer

28 October 2025

I began my current role of Disaster Recovery Officer in December 2024, working two days a week over two years to help develop coordinated and sustainable Disaster Resilience and Recovery capabilities for Presbyteries and Congregations.

Progress to date:

  • Currently receiving feedback from Ministry Agents, PSI, SLT, and SSC on:
    • The Disaster Resilience & Recovery Framework*
    • The Moderator’s Disaster Relief Appeal Policy
  • Disaster Chaplaincy Policy and Flyer - approved and in operation
  • The Hub disaster recovery area under Disaster Management - Uniting Church Australia
  • Establishing a network of Disaster Recovery-trained Peer Supporters.
  • Background systems eg SUGAR data capture and dashboards.

* Disaster Resilience & Recovery Framework informs the development, over time, of a range of policies, handbooks, Ministry Agent support arrangements and systems, processes, tools and easy to access vital disaster information for our people working alongside disaster impacted communities.

My husband Chris and I have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. We both love life and have a passion for crafting interesting food and creating art pieces for others motivated by my hope in Jesus. When it comes to footy, I’m all about the Dolphins! Though it’s interesting times when the family get together with hubby and a son following the Roosters, while others support the Broncos and Dragons.

As well as government deployments as a Disaster Recovery Chaplain, Chaplaincy with Carinity Aged Care and St Vincents Hospitals, and leadership with the 1800 Chaplain National Call Line Team, earlier in my career, I worked in senior executive roles, paramedical roles throughout North and North-western Queensland with the Queensland Ambulance Service, and as a Mediator/Facilitator with a Queensland government department.

As we approach (and are already in) the disaster season, we are in preparations to offer disaster recovery support.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a disaster free season.  I live in perpetual hope. 😊 Always ready to go though 😊
