Service Medal is awarded for outstanding contribution to the community.

Diana Thomson is a volunteer crisis supporter who has been with Lifeline for 19 years. She answers phones to those in need during their most dire times and circumstances. Not only does she respond with unconditional positive regard to her Help Seekers, but she has also helped teach and mold generations of Crisis Supporters at the Maroochydore Centre.

In addition to her regular shift, Diana has been the cornerstone of the mentors at the Centre, volunteering to support new students for 17 years.

Diana answers calls with compassion, respect, and unconditional positive regard. She talks to people at their lowest points, considering suicide, self-harm, or unable to function due to personal crisis. She is highly regarded as a mentor because of her calm nature, quiet responses, and unfathomable experience in dealing with people from all walks of life, both Help Seekers and Crisis Supporters alike.

Diana is always available to listen, guide, and motivate, with no judgement and infinite wisdom.

Diana's peers have nothing but praise for her professionalism, her never-ending willingness to do more, and her depth of experience in helping the next level of Crisis Supporters take calls effectively and in line with Lifeline's guidelines for crisis support.

It would be impossible to work out how many lives she may have saved, not only directly, but through her teachings and encouragement for other Crisis Supporters who have been mentored by her. Diana is a strong role model for the mentors and is always available to help with words of wisdom and experience, so they too can go on to help develop new student Crisis Supporters
