MEET THE PANELLISTS...
Panel facilitator: Simone Elias (Manager Environmental Sustainability, UnitingCare)
Francis Nona is a proud Badulaig man from the Torres Strait Islands, and a researcher at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Carumba Institute focusing on the effects of climate change on health. With a background as a registered nurse, Francis has also worked in rural hospitals, aged care, rehabilitation and youth justice. He is a passionate advocate of climate justice, health equity, and First Nations-led solutions to the environmental challenges we face.
Rev. Dr. Adam McIntosh is the General Secretary of the Queensland Synod, and serves on the Boards of UnitingCare and Wesley Mission Qld. Adam was a co-author of the Synod’s "Flourishing Creation Action & Advocacy Plan 2030", which proposes shared environmental sustainability commitments to unite all Uniting Church Queensland congregations, presbyteries, agencies, and schools.
Jess Powell is a clinical nurse and educator at The Wesley Hospital, with professional interests in public health and sustainable healthcare. As a long-time Green Champion, Jess has led several high-impact waste and recycling initiatives on her ward, which demonstrate the unique impact that frontline changemakers can have in sustainability.
The event will be opened by Kym Korbe, a proud Koa and Kuku Yalanji woman, currently serving as Executive Officer of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC) and Covenanting at the Uniting Church Qld Synod.
