Presbytery Minister (Mission)
The Uniting Church in Western Australia is currently seeking expression of interest for a Presbytery Minister (Mission) who will be working with the Presbytery, under the oversight of the Thrive Mission Committee (Thrive), to resource, support and enable efficient implementation of the Presbytery’s mission-focused strategic goals; and, to execute the Presbytery’s responsibilities as assigned to Thrive.
The Presbytery Minister (Mission) will be part of the Presbytery Resource Team and work in close collaboration with the other members of the team with day-to-day oversight and coordination provided by the Presbytery Officer.
The Presbytery Minister (Mission) will contribute to the life of Uniting Church congregations across Western Australia as they seek to be the people of God within their local communities and beyond.
Some of the key areas of responsibility for the role are (please see a full list here):
• Consultation and planning – resource and assist congregations to undertake deliberate, wise and prayerful missional planning and support the development or renewal of written mission plans appropriate to particular situations. Create or support existing networks to assist congregations and ministers to resource and encourage each other in understanding and practicing missional ministry. In consultation with Thrive, offer support and encouragement to congregation as they work through the range of property issues that face the church.
• Innovation and Opportunity – Encourage and assist congregations to develop Fresh Expressions of Church (as defined by Mission Shaped Ministry) by exploring the possibilities appropriate to their local communities. Research and provide examples of successful, innovative Fresh Expression of Church. Support and encourage congregations with existing Fresh Expressions such as Messy Church and Godly Play and the “down under” version of the Godsend App.
• Training and Resourcing – Encourage, support and deliver Mission Shaped Ministry (MSM) Training Courses including the planning and implementation of the course annually. Assist Thrive to ensure the MSM courses are accessible to both city and rural congregations through a variety of mediums including face to face delivery, online and webinar based resources.
• Marketing and Promotion– Working with the Thrive Committee to ensure Thrive has an active online and social network presence that is regularly updated with relevant, informative material. Actively promote and advertise Thrive events and training opportunities working closely with the Marketing and Communications Team.
Applicants need to be members (or members in Association) of the Uniting Church in Australia (Lay or Ordained) and passionate about enabling congregations to creatively discover their call and future life within the Uniting Church.
Applicants need to have demonstrated ability to work as part of collaborative teams however also the ability to take initiative and work independently when necessary. The right applicant has qualifications in Theology and/or experience. The successful applicant also needs to have completed MSM Training, or be prepared to undertake the relevant training within the first six months as they will be part of a team leading MSM Courses and other adult education and training.
If the successful applicant is not an ordained minister, the person must agree to undertake the necessary training in order to meet the requirements to be recognised as a Pastor within the Uniting Church in Australia.
