The Uniting Church in Australia (the Church) is a large uniquely Australian Christian denomination in Australia with heritage from historical reformed evangelical denominations. In Queensland, the Uniting Church has around 250 congregations and has schools, colleges and large community services (such as UnitingCare Queensland and Wesley Mission Queensland).

We are seeking an individual to join our People and Culture team and focus on the non-theological learning and development program and activities of the Queensland Synod that will improve the capacity, compliance and capability of lay staff, ministry agents and committee/board members.

The position’s key responsibilities include:
1. In consultation with the Manager People & Culture and in partnership with the business, manage and implement the Learning and Development program for the Queensland Synod which is complementary with other human resource processes.
2. In consultation with key stakeholders, implement a relevant and contemporary Learning and Development Framework, including learning and development policies, systems and processes that support:
a) Implementation of the Leadership Development Program for Ministry Agents and Synod office lay staff which is designed to build leadership capability.
b) the Synod office, Committees, Boards, Commissions, Presbytery Ministers and other relevant office bearers in the church in the achievement of Synod wide governance objectives, and
c) the Synod Office, Committees, Boards, Commissions, Presbytery Ministers and other relevant office bearers in the church in meeting their legal and regulatory compliance obligations.
3. Identify training needs and skills development in accordance with the Queensland Synod’s strategic priorities.
4. Develop and where appropriate deliver relevant training programs, courses and projects as specified by the needs of the Queensland Synod, utilising appropriate delivery methods given the learning objectives and location of attendees.
5. Develop key relationships with external training providers to provide cost effective and targeted training programs.
6. Develop key relationships with internal training providers to support the development of a professional team of endorsed internal educators.
7. Manage and facilitate the Synod office learning and performance management system, including mange requests for new or review of on-line courses and training events.
8. Evaluate trainer competence and achievement of learning outcomes to ensure training programs and courses remain of high quality.
9. Coach and support appropriate stakeholders to support Synod wide learning and development initiatives and training programs

What do you need to be successful in this role?
• Qualifications;
o Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Learning & Development or similar professional discipline.
o Relevant training qualifications (Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessment) is highly desirable

Selection criteria
o Demonstrated learning and development experience over several years, preferably in a community service or not for profit or church related organisation is essential.
o A solid understanding of the principles of adult learning.
o Demonstrated understanding of Learning and Development Frameworks, strategy, systems and processes, including contemporary approaches to learning, skills development, and curriculum design and training delivery.
o Demonstrated ability in the practical application of frameworks, methodologies and tools and the management of a program of work.
o Ability to utilise an effective consultation approach with internal and external key stakeholders to educate and promote adoption of the learning and development framework and program.

Remuneration
The minimum base salary (exclusive of superannuation) for this position is $74,800 per year. Remuneration negotiations with the successful candidate will be within the applicable remuneration range.
