Systems and Security Administrator – Full Time

The Uniting Church in Australia is the third largest Christian denomination in Australia. In Queensland, we have around 250 congregations and a number of schools, colleges and community services (such as Blue Care, UnitingCare Queensland and Wesley Mission Queensland).

We are seeking an individual to join our Information Technology team to focus on guaranteeing the integrity and security of the information held by the Queensland Synod office and ensure the data systems used are integrated and/or communicate in an appropriate manner so that reporting needs are met. This position is also responsible for managing the information technology on which the data resides to the ensure availability of the information.

The position’s key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain network integrity and a secure environment.
  • Monitor and optimise network and system performance to ensure service availability.
  • Identify system capacity needs and manage system resources to ensure the provision of services.
  • Coordinate the testing of Disaster Recovery measures and report on effectiveness.
  • Install, configure and manage infrastructure environment.
  • Provide 2nd tier user support and troubleshooting.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • A Tertiary level qualification in Information Technology, or successful progression towards a qualification with experience, or more than 5 years’ experience.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Windows Server certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification is preferred
  • Virtualisation and Citrix vendor certifications are preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in administering and maintaining a medium size information technology environment within a diverse organisation preferably in a not-for-profit organisation.
  • Demonstrated systems administration experience with core software products: Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Citrix XenApp, Office365 (SharePoint and Exchange), Nutanix, Linux and Cloud infrastructure (AWS), preferably with vendor certifications.
  • Demonstrated systems security experience to protect systems and networks from theft and/or damage to hardware, software or information. Including configuration and management experience with specific security devices such as Firewalls, Wi-Fi, monitoring networks for security breaches and recommending security enhancements to management.
  • Experience utilising Microsoft SCCM for patch and application deployments, along with advanced PowerShell skills for automating solutions.
  • Administration of network communications equipment including management of ports, vLans and various network link troubleshooting. Cisco experience preferred.
  • Superior troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex issues and think logically and analytically.
  • Have flexibility to work after hours to perform maintenance activities and on-call as required


Remuneration negotiations with the successful candidate will be within the applicable remuneration range for the position, and the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
