Dear friends in Christ,

As news continues to unfold from our southern states of the devastating impact bushfires are having on many communities, Rev Peter Armstrong—the Chair of the Queensland Synod Disaster Response and Community Recovery Committee—and I have been in contact with the NSW/ACT and Vic/Tas Synods, and are ready to support with our resources when requested.

I’m calling the congregations of the Uniting Church in Queensland to pray for the bushfire situation in southern Australia:

  • Let us pray for rain, to relieve the bushfire conditions
  • Let us pray for those affected; that as a nation, we may bind up the broken-hearted, and restore the lost and forsaken; that we may be united in restoring communities; that we may learn the lessons we need to so that we can be good stewards of this land in which we live
  • Let us give thanks for all those working to deal with these fires; that they may be safe from harm, that they may be properly supported and resourced.
