For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13

The Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod’s property portfolio is its financially most valuable physical asset. The primary purpose of property is to support church mission. As a church, all property has been acquired or bequeathed to us as a legacy blessing which we are truly thankful for and must steward well. These assets are the common wealth of the church for the use of the church as per the regulations. Agencies, congregations and presbyteries are granted responsibility over these assets and need to consider the best use of this property, but where do you start when contemplating the best way to use these?

The Synod Office can assist you in exploring many options that link directly to missional outcomes such as:

  • Special assistance schools
  • Social housing
  • Child care centres
  • Community centres
  • Specialist disability accommodation
  • Op shops
  • Coffee shops

Remembering too that “commercial” doesn’t negate “missional” and we need both; for without money there is no mission.

We can also assist and support you to work with other parts of the church such as Wesley Mission Queensland and UnitingCare Queensland to bring your visions to a reality.

We invite you to contact the BDU at bdu@ucaqld.com.au to discuss better use of property as we would love to help you.
